Che Puan Sarimah chats with HOMME Magazine:

HOMME: You have enjoyed much success in many roles, tell us your favourite?

SI: From a professional prospective, as an actress, since 1996 to date it will be hosting the AJL Awards (similar to the Grammy’s). I’ve co-hosted three times! Also acting. I start a new Astro TV series playing a Lawyer!

HOMME: You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?

SI: Probably Oat… I feel it’s somewhere in the middle. Neutral. Can be a great addition to compliment other colours and is usually creamy and delicious in texture. LOL! Definitely not beige! Hehe.“

HOMME: Favourite childhood memory?

SI: As a youngster being on holiday with either grandparents and family in Ireland or Malaysia … I grew up learning the depths of both cultures and am very grateful for that.

HOMME: How did you get through the pandemic?

SI: I told myself it will be over soon and it could be worse. I conducted over 200 zoom webinars where I was a speaker or moderator, or a host for mental health advocacy work. About mental health awareness campaigns working with government and private sectors. I also released a charity single called “Harapan” – a bilingual song about mental health and suicide awareness – written and produced by Damian Mikhail in collaboration with NGO AWAS.

HOMME: What was the last gift you gave someone?

SI: NOTE FROM ED: Sarimah read the question as BEST not LAST!

Sarimah’s response was refreshing in which she says time spent with her husband and daughter. It’s the gift of time and presence. With no expectation. I enjoy their presence.

Che Puan Sarimah with her husband YM Tunku Nadzimuddin Tunku Mudzaffar and daughter Tunku Sofia.

HOMME: Where did you go to school?

SI: Kilkenny in Ireland. Subang Jaya and Shah Alam. All local schools which were tremendously good for my life and career. Dubai meant International schools. Wesley College Dublin and HELP University here in KL.

HOMME: What inspires you?

SI: People being really genuine and honest. That’s inspiring.

HOMME: Tell us something we don’t know about you?

SI: I’m a Black Belt in Karate. I love reading autobiographys. I’m secretly an introvert which surprises everyone!

HOMME: What do you want to be remembered for?

SI: By family … never giving up … and my constant pursuit of improving myself. That I didn’t simply settle. And as a genuine soul who craved for honesty.

HOMME: What is your favourite activity in your freetime?

SI: My only vices are coffee and working out. I really enjoy listening to debates with professional individuals. Listening to alternative opinions is educational for any ‘individual’s development.

HOMME: What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume?

SI: I did 301 scuba dives. On the last 301ist dive I ran out of air at 22 meters. I stopped diving! I ski-dived 7 times before I got married. I’m still here. Needless to say, I stopped diving after that… and after i got married… I never took that risk again… I do miss being deep underwater still though!

HOMME: An exciting appointment as Official Spokesperson for EMPATI Malaysia. What are your aspirations and goals?

SI: I am very excited and honoured the founder of Empati invited me to become their Official Spokesperson.
